Red figure ornament “Kagami-mochi”
Kagami-mochi, a traditional New Year’s decoration, has the meaning of “wishing for a bountiful harvest that year and celebrating a new beginning.”
This porcelain kagami-mochi is a lucky charm with an orange on top, a leaf knot, and Urashiro (Gleichenia Japonica) and Gohei (strips of white paper) scattered on three sides.
It is decorated using the traditional Thousand-day polishing technique.
